List of Common Issues and Errors

Postby administrator » Jul 26th, '10, 12:11

ERROR #1:
------------------
Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111

Solution:
Allow connect to database from your IP address (ask server provider to make connection available not only frpm 127.0.0.1)

ERROR #2:
-------------------
You get warnings like:
session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/var/php_sessions/sess_2342fe4106b10804ee1057, O_RDWR) failed:
No such file or directory (2) in /herd/web/web2/..../header.php on line ....

Solution:
You have problems with your session settings (not activeCollab related).
Open your php.ini and check if 'session.save_path' option points to existing, writable folder.
If its not (point it to some temp folder you have, C:/Windows/Temp for instance).
Ask your hosting company to help you in fixing this issue.

ERROR #3:
-------------------
The server requested authentication method unknown to the client

Apparently this has to do with MySQL and PHP and different version and how the password is hashed. It is looking for the old password hash but generating the new password hash.

Solution:
There are multiple resolutions however in most cases you will not be able to do them unless you have access and the ability to:
1. Downgrade PHP

2. Upgrade the MYSQL Libraries to match the version of MYSQL on the server.

3. Change the my.cnf file
Comment out OLD_PASSWORDS = 1
restart mysql
Create or modify a user with the password desired
Uncomment out OLD_PASSWORDS = 1
restart mysql

4. https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/old-client.html
Have your hosting company SSH in to the machine and sign in to MYSQL and then run the following command
SET PASSWORD FOR 'username'@'hostname' = OLD_PASSWORD('newPassword');
